MESSAGE FOR EX-ASPI STAFFERS

Hi there. This is Jaq James, typing to you from a world where data-driven research and firm facts actually matter.

If you are an ex-ASPI staffer who had an uncomfortable experience working for ASPI, I first want to offer you my empathy. I have heard about ASPI's workplace environment and I know it is not an easy place to thrive if you don't subscribe to the China-threat narrative being perpetuated at any cost.

I am seeking you out for a very important reason: to help me understand what was going on inside the ASPI office at the time the Uyghurs for Sale report was being written (if you were there).

I am not interested in disparaging gossip about ASPI employees; I am only interested in information that provides additional proof for my case theory that the Uyghurs for Sale report was written with a strategic disinformation agenda. Any information you provide me will not be published; it will just be used to guide my future research, based on open sources.

You may be thinking, What’s in it for me? Why should I help?  My answer would be to put yourself in the shoes of the Uyghurs who have been subjected to undeserved penalty because of the Uyghurs for Sale report. The Uyghurs are an economically disadvantaged ethnic group who have every right to take a step up into modernity and prosperity, if that is of their choosing. Should the Uyghurs be set back further in life just for someone else's catharsis or agenda? Even if you were involved with the Uyghurs for Sale report, it is not too late to turn your experience into something constructive and helpful for the Uyghurs. You will not be judged by me: I understand the power of group dynamics and how it can subordinate individual will. What matters is that you now have an opportunity to take remedial steps in the safety of anonymity.
